The application process

Who is eligible

This program is for rising Ohio high school seniors who are high achieving, first-generation, rural and/or underrepresented minority students. We also encourage counselors to nominate any student they feel would benefit from this program.

Applicants to the program should:

  • Rank in the top 40 percent of the class
  • Be enrolled in a curriculum that includes AP/IB or honors courses, foreign language and/or advanced mathematics
  • Show active involvement in extracurricular and leadership activities

To apply

Students apply for the program in their junior year. Current high school juniors are welcome to apply, even if they aren't nominated.

Ready? Complete the BSLA application.
All materials must by submitted by January 31, 2018 at 11:59 p.m. Students selected to participate in the program will receive a notification between March and the end of April.

To nominate students

School counselors may nominate up to 15 of their top juniors who satisfy the eligibility criteria. Nominations are due October 31, 2017. Go to the nomination form. Ohio State will directly email nominated students with a link to the BSLA application.
